Limbo
Published in Paperback by Chandler & Sharp Pub (April, 1979)
Author: Carobeth Laird
Average review score:

Must read for all nursing students
Carobeth, like many older people, was raised to be independant and self sufficient. The gradual loss of these abilities played tricks on her mind and caused her deep depression and finally sporadic loss of contact with reality. Read about the miracle that eventually saved her sanity.

The Little Dinosaurs of Ghost Ranch
Published in Hardcover by Columbia University Press (June, 1995)
Author: Edwin H. Colbert
Average review score:

A good book about one small dinosaur.
This is a well-written book that covers the discovery, excavation, and reconstruction of a dinosaur (coelophysis). Discussion centered on this small therapod incorporates broader material, so that the reader gets an understanding of the life and times of other prehistoric creatures in addition to a detailed account of coelophysis

The Lived Horizon of My Being: The Substantiation of the Self & the Discourse of Resistance in Rigoberta Menchu, Mm Bakhtin and Victor Montejo (Special Study (Arizona State University. Center for Latin American Studies), No 29)
Published in Paperback by Arizona State Univ Center for Latin (April, 1997)
Author: Judith Thorn

Yowza!
What a profoundly cosmic text! I particularly liked the bits about the substantiation of the self, and the discourse of resistance was pretty good, too.

If you're looking for a fabulous academic text, or even just some fun nighttime reading, here's your book

Living at the Edge : Explorers, Exploiters and Settlers of the Grand Canyon Region
Published in Paperback by Grand Canyon Association (01 April, 1998)
Authors: Michael F. Anderson, Sandra Scott, L. Greer Price, and Pamela Frazier
Average review score:

For pioneer history of the Canyon, THIS IS THE BOOK!
The photos alone are worth the price of this oversized paperback. Mr. Anderson has assembled a detailed and engaging history of the "pioneer" period (1850-1930) at the South and North rims of the Grand Canyon (and the cliffs, slopes and water in between). The familiar names of trails and canyons are fleshed into the first hardy folks who endeavored to eek a livelihood out of northern Arizona's unforgiving desert canyon. We meet explorers, entrepreneurs and industrialists. Prospectors stake their claims, both legitimate and fraudulent. Mormons seek refuge from the laws of their own home state. Individuals fight their losing tugs-of-war against the Railroad/Concession/Park Service aliance. While treatment of prehistoric and early Spanish events is adequate to set the stage for discussing the later periods, it is not intended to be comprehensive [see On the Edge of Splendor]. This comfortably readable volume has finally clarified for me the preferential treatment of Fred Harvey Enterprises, the unmistakable ambivalence of the National Park Service toward its patrons (visitors), and the puzzling destruction of historic sites and abandonment of remote access roads by the NPS. This is great reading for any Canyon junkie.

Lovers Crossing
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Minotaur (July, 2003)
Author: James C. Mitchell
Average review score:

A debut author writes a winning P.I. tale
INS Agent Roscoe Brinker worked the border near Nogales when he was shot during an incident. He recovers, but is forced into retirement. To this day he believes one of his men either pulled the trigger or paid to have him shot, but he has no evidence against Sanchez. Instead, Brinker moved on and operates a private investigative firm out of Tucson.

Car dealer Mo Crain considers hiring Roscoe, but first asks the sleuth personal questions because he knows he needs someone who cares about loved ones to handle his case. The police have no leads into who killed Mo's philanthropic-activist wife. While standing besides her vehicle in a mall parking lot, someone shot Mo's spouse, but the killer failed to steal her car, jewelry, money or credit cards. Mo needs to know who and why so he engages Roscoe to find the answers that shockingly takes the sleuth full circle back to the border area where he was shot.

If LOVERS CROSSING is any indication of what readers can expect from debut author James C. Mitchell, fans of private investigative thrillers can expect some strong tales. The story line hooks the audience from the opening prologue when Roscoe as an INS Agent is shot until he completes his tracking of 900 miles in one week on the odometer of the car used by Mo's deceased wife. Readers will value this taut tale of illegal border dealings (not just crossings) that showcases a new talent.

The Map : Trails of West Phoenix

A Bikers Best Friend!!
Being new to the Phoenix area and new to mountain biking I found this map extremely helpfull. It's more descriptive and accurate than the many hiking books that I own. As a beginner on the bike, I found the rated trails and routes very accurate which is the exception to the rule of most books. This map should prove useful to any trail user. I know I'll use it for hiking as well. I can see that without it I would have missed out on some the better trails in my area. If you love to bike or hike as much as I do, do yourself or a friend a favor and get this book!!!!

Gift for Mother
This little gem would be a perfect gift for a Mother, or for any woman seeking to understand the dimensions of mother/daugher relationships. I enjoyed this book for the simple emotions, intimate historical look at Nazi Germany and methods in which the author uses photographs to spark her poetry.

LIVING WITH AN HISTORIC SITE
This is a beautifully produced coffee table quality book relating experiences with Indians, nature and architecture. It has many high quality photographs taken by the owners over the years. Phillip Johnson, an architectural icon describes the architecture as the best use of rocks in a dwelling in the world...the architecture connects huge boulders without intruding on nature. Text and photographs heighten the feelings and importance of living with nature and this registered historic site, rather than just on it.

One Of The Finest Examples Of Mission Architecture
This is one of the very few publications available about Mission San Xavier Del Bac - except for tourist literature. Helga Teiwes is both a writer and an accomplished photographer. The mission is located about seven miles from Tucson and is considered to be one of the finest examples of mission architecture in the United States.

The mission's foundation has been dated back to 1700. The mission was completed in 1797 and restored in 1906 and again in 1984.
